On 16th December the 7th Edition of the UAB race was held, which supported TV3´s telethon known as La Marató, and this year funds of which go towards Cancer Research.
The organisers encourage everybody to participate, and it is for that reason that there are different types of circuits and distances: the 6 km walk; the 6 km race; the 11 km race; or the 480 metres reduced mobility race. Catalònia Fundació Creactiva participates with 100 runners.
All circuits started and finished at the University Village, but the longer races also passed by Sincrotró Alba and through Cerdanyola del Vallès, as a new feature.
Collaboration with research:
Cancer is the primary cause of death in Catalonia among men and the second cause among women. Each day 28 people die of cancer, which is more than 10,000 a year. Thanks to biomedical research, in Catalonia, cancer survival rates have increased 7% in the last ten years and the average currently sits at 55%. But despite the advances that have been made in treatments, diagnostic methods and prevention, occurrence remains very high: 1 in every 2 men and 1 in every 3 women will have cancer at some time in their life.
